Place Value

Understanding place value is still very important. Try to practise dividing two and three digit numbers by 10. If this becomes difficult mentally, children can draw a place value grid and then picture the number moving to the right as it is divided by ten.

Questions to think about:
What happens to the number in the grid when you multiply by ten?
Is it important to understand why we take away or add a zero, when we divide or multiply by ten?
Can you use this grid to divide or multiply by one thousand?
